International Film Festival Rotterdam 2014

The 43th edition of International Film Festival Rotterdam, which will take place from 22 January to 2 February, announced today on January 15th its official programme. The audience will have the chance to watch a great range of films from all over the world in twelve different sections and once again Balkan films participate in most of them.

The Croatian-Dutch documentary Happily Ever After by Tatjana Bozic as well as the Bulgarian-Romanian feature Viktoria by Maya Vitkova will compete this year in the Hivos Tiger Awards Competition while the short Giant (Finland/Romania) by Salla Tykka is selected for the Tiger Awards Competition for Short Films.

In the category Bright Future which aims at highlighting fresh new filmmakers, we meet Penny Panayotopoulou and her film September, a Greek-German co-pruduction.

Tayfun Pirselimoglu΄s I΄m Not Him (Turkey/Greece/France) and and Manuel Martin Cuenca΄s Canibal (Spain/Romania/Russia/France) will screen in the Spectrum section as they provide, according to IFFR, an essential contribution to international film culture.

The Slovenian documentary Karpotrotter by Matjaz Ivanisin, the Greek King Kong by Nikolaos Kyritsis and the Croatian On Shaky Ground by Sonja Tarokic, all of them international premiers, participate in the Spectrum Shorts section. In the same category the audience can watch Radu Jude΄s Shadow of a Cloud from Romania, the Serbian Springtime Suns by Stefan Ivancic and Dane Komljen΄s Tiny Bird, a Serbian-Croatian co-production.

As a prelude to the European elections this year, IFFR brings a multi-strand programme called The State of Europe. When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism by Corneliu Porumboiu (Romania/France) will screen both in The State of Europe – EU 29 as well as in The State of Europe – Grand Tour category. The Romanian Where Are You Bucharest by Vlad Petri is selected for The State of Europe – My Own Private Europe section.

Finally, the 31st edition of CineMart co-production market, which will be held from 26-29 January, in the frame of the Festival, will present this year, out of 25 projects in total, the Turkish/French/German Mustang by Deniz Gamze Ergüven - Aurora Films & Vistamar Filmproduktion and the Greek/UK co-production Pity by Babis Makridis - Beben Films, Faliro House Productions, Feelgood Entertainment S.A. & Warp Films UK.
