The winners of the 8th Gopo Awards

The 8th edition of Gopo Awards awarded on March 24th the best Romanian films of 2013. The competition that highlighted the winners, consisted of 65 feature, short and documentary films in 20 different categories.

Child΄s Pose by Calin Peter Netzer

Once again, the multi-awarded Child΄s Pose by Calin Peter Netzer stole the show, winning 8 awards out of its 10 nominations. Child΄s Pose returned home with the prizes for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress (Luminiţa Gheorghiu), Best Screenplay (Răzvan Rădulescu, Calin Peter Netzer), Best Supporting Actress (Ilinca Goia), Best Supporting Actor (Vlad Ivanov), Best Editing (Dana Bunescu) and Best Sound (Cristian Tarnoveţchi, Dana Bunescu, Cristinel Şirli). Calin Peter Netzer΄s film also received an Audience Award as the film with the most admissions in 2013.

Miss Christina by Alexandru Maftei

Miss Christina by Alexandru Maftei won Best Original Music, Best Make-up and Hair Styling and Best Costumes award while  Igor Cobileanski’s Romanian-Moldovan co-production Flying Lessons/ The Unsaved, the most nominated film for this year, received Best First Feature and Best Cinematography (Oleg Mutu) out of 13 nominations in total. 

Japanese Dog by Tudor Cristian

Victor Rebengiuc was handed the Best Actor in a Leading Role award for his performance in Tudor Cristian΄s Japanese Dog and Adrian Sitaru΄s Domestic won the Best Art Direction award (Cristian Niculescu).

The Bucuresti Experiment by Tom Wilson

The Best Documentary Award was presented to The Bucuresti Experiment by Tom Wilson, while Vibration by Germain Kanda won the Gopo for the Best Short Documentary. In the Best Short Film section the winner was Shadow of a Cloud by Radu Jude. Tudor Panduru received the Discovery Award for his Cinematography in the short film Black Brigade and Amour by Michael Haneke (Austria/Germany/France, 2012) was the Best European Film distributed in Romania in 2013.

Finally, Marian Crisan received the Pro Cinema Award, while the RSC Award (Romanian Society of Cinematographers) went to Radu Aldea.

The 2014 Gopo Awards Gala was organized by Romanian Film Promotion and Transilvania Film, with the support of Babel Communications and the Romanian CNC. For more information please visit the Gopo Awards official website.
