The 11th Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival

The eleventh edition of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival will take place May 1-3, 2014 at Tribeca Cinemas in New York City. The BHFF is an annual event,  featuring contemporary Bosnian- Herzegovinian cinematography and films focusing on Bosnia-Herzegovina. Since 2003, when it was founded, the festival has gained recognition and reputation as it contributes to a better understanding of Bosnia-Herzegovina and gives up-and-coming and internationally-renowned filmmakers the opportunity to expose their work to a wide audience.
The festival will screen a total of 16 films, out of which four are feature films, five short films, and seven are documentaries. The films screening at the 2014 BHFF were carefully selected from 33 submissions from 10 countries including Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, the Netherlands, Finland, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, the United States, and Canada.

An Episode in The Life of an Iron Picker by Danis Tanovic

This year, the 11th BHFF will present the latest masterpiece of Danis Tanovic, An Episode in The Life of an Iron Picker, which will screen during the Closing Night of the Festival. In addition BHFF will screen Srdan Golubovic΄s Circles, Bobo Jelcic΄s A Stranger, and Faruk Loncarevic΄s With Mom.

The shorts selection consists of the films May 31st by Mirza Ajnadzic (BA, 28min, 2013) and Shunt by Zoran Catic (BA, 5min, 2014), which will premiere internationally at BHFF, as well as Just to Take a Look by Damir Basic (BA, 1min, 2013), Mum by Ado Hasanovic (BA, 15min, 2013) and We Survived by Amela Cuhura (BA, 20min, 2013).

Finding Family by Chris Leslie and Oggi Tomic

Another international premiere will be the documentary Bosnia in our Hearts by Sixten Björkstrand (FI, 29min, 2013), while the documentaries Tales from a Forgotten City (BA/ NL, 27min, 2013) by Amir Grabus and Finding Family by Chris Leslie and Oggi Tomic will have their U.S and New York premieres respectively. The rest of the documentaries that will screen at the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival are Besko by Nedzad Begovic (BA, 26min, 2013), Vita Mulier by Mirna Dizdarevic (BA, 13min, 2013), A Wound That is Hidden by Una Kreso (BA/ NL, 14min, 2013) and Trnopolje, A Forgotten Summer by Zabou Cârrière, Taina Tervonen and Jean-Baptiste Delpias (Fr, 55min, 2012).

The films that will screen at the annual BHFF are nominated for a number of prizes including the "Golden Apple" audience and jury awards. The BHFF will award the 2014 BHFF Audience Award for Best Picture to one film selected by audience members. Films eligible for the Audience Award will be all those screened at the BHFF 2014 that were produced between 2012 and 2014. Additionally, BHFF Jury Awards will be handed to the most outstanding films screened at the festival. 

The 2014 BHFF Jury will consist of the award winning filmmaker and phtographer Harun Mehmedinović, the renown Bosnian-American artist Nebojša Šerić - Shoba and the filmmaker Amir Husak. They will award the BHFF 2014 Jury Award for Best Documentary Film, BHFF 2014 Jury Award for Best Short Film and BHFF 2014 Jury Award for Best Feature Film to the most outstanding films.
