The 11th GAIFF will take place in Yerevan, between 13 and 20 July. One of the special guests this year is the Cannes 2014 Palm d΄Ore winner, Nuri Bilge Ceylan with his Winter Sleep to be screened in the framework of Yerevan Premieres programme. Also, this year the festival is paying tribute to filmmakers such as Otar Iosseliani and Sergei Parajanov, and to the Middle and Far-East, with Amos Gitai, Kim Ki-Duk from Korea and Jia Zhangke from China.
GAIFF is presented in two international competition sections: Feature Films and Documentaries. There are four main categories, the International Feature with 10 films, the International Documentary with 12 films, the Armenian Panorama with 18 and the Apricot Stone short film competition, presenting 30 shorts, among them Greek filmmaker Assimina Proedrou and her Red Hulk, an awarded short film with participations in European short film fests.
In the Feature Competition section we find four Balkan films and co-productions:
The Out of Competition programme Films Across Borders traditionally present a selection of recent films created in the Eastern Partnership - a joint initiative between the EU and the Eastern European partner countries. 16 films have been selected with the idea of bringing a cultural dialogue and overcoming borders through art.
Balkan films and co-productions in the Out of Competition programme:
Films About Conscience: Hakan Yaman, Tik-Tak Tak-Tik, Life With..., 1 May, and others by Fatih Pinar, Ufuk Erden, Tigran Gasabyan, Hasan Kilic, Aram Kocharyan, Suat Senocak, Tuna Tetik, Turkey/Armenia, 2013
Beside the screening of Winter Sleep, a number of critically acclaimed films are to be presented in the framework of Yerevan Premieres programme, like Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardennes΄ latest Two Days, One Night.
Each year, GAIFF is marked with a traditional blessing of apricots, the most famous product of Armenia.
