61st Pula Film Festival Awards

After 12 days of numerous Croatian, International films and documentaries, parallel programes and screenings of the festival’s old and classical films, the 61st Pula Film Festival wrapped for 2014 with the Golden Arena for International Film going to Pirjo Honkasalo’s Finnish film noir Concrete Night

Number 55 by Kristijan Milic

Pula΄s big winner for this year was Cristijan Milic΄s Number 55, Best Croatian Film for 2014 with 8 awards in total and the jury saying its award went to “the film produced according to highest professional standards and the film that achieves an authentic and emotional presentation of a true event from the Croatian War of Independence.” Other films praised by the jury were Tudor Cristian Jurgiu’s The Japanese Dog and Rok Bicek’s Class Enemy.

Golden Arena for Best Actor in a Supporting Role to Igor Kovac for The Reaper by Zvonimir Juric

Golden Arena for Best Actress in a Supporting Role to Anita Matic Delic for Happy Endings by Darko Suvak

Golden Arena for Best Cinematography to Branko Linta for The Reaper by Zvonimir Juric

Golden Arena for Best Editing to Veljko Segaric for Number 55 by Kristijan Milic

Golden Arena for Best Special Effects to Branko Repalust and Kristijan Mrsic for Number 55 by Kristijan Milic

Golden Arena for Best Costume Design to Vedrana Rapic for Number 55 by Kristijan Milic

Golden Arena for Best Art Direction to Damir Gabelica for Number 55 by Kristijan Milic

Golden Arena for Best Music to Luka Zima for Zagreb Cappuccino by Vanja Svilicic

Golden Arena for Best Make-Up to Ana Bulajic Crcek for Number 55 by Kristijan Milic

The Breza Award for Best Debut to Danko Vucinovic for the cinematography of Zagreb Cappuccino by Vanja Svilicic

Golden Arena for Best Sound was not awarded this year.

The 2014 Oktavijan Award, the Croatian Film Critics’ Association Award, went to The Reaper by Zvonimir Juric, while the Golden Gate of Pula Audience Award was granted to the film The Brave Adventures of a Little Shoemaker by Silvije Petranovic.
