Australia’s most significant screen event and one of the oldest film festivals in the world, the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) starts on the 31st of July, presenting an acclaimed screening program alongside industry and celebratory events.

MIFF showcases the best in current cinema from around the world, as well as tributes, discussion programs and retrospectives. Since its establishing in 1952 the festival has also been committed to local film, as it is Australia΄s largest showcase of new Australian cinema and the country’s most vocal champion of emerging and established local filmmaking talent.

In this year’s program, beside the huge selection of international films and documentaries we find Ivan Ostrochovsky’s, Pavol Pekarcik’s and Peter KerekesVelvet Terrorists, Miss Violence by Alexandros Avranas, When Evening Falls On Bucharest Or Metabolism and The Second Game by Corneliu Porumboiu – two films in one festival for the Romanian filmmaker.

Romania is also participating as a co-production country in legendary John Boorman’s latest Queen & Country, and in The Vanquishing Of The Witch Baba Yaga by Jessica Oreck.
