With a reputation for excellence, and a diverse array of films are shown, Toronto International Film Festival, the leading public film festival in the world, screens every September more than 300 films from about 60 countries, focusing mainly on North American cinema industry.

From 4 to 14 of September, the programmers will organise Hollywood galas, complete with red carpet glamour; show the best in international cinema, the latest Canadian comedies and everything in between.

Winter Sleep by Nuri Bilge Ceylan

Toronto IFF is universally regarded as an ideal platform to premiere films. Boasting a public eager for the best in contemporary film, as well as international attention from media, distributors, producers and buyers along with a galaxy of stars. The festival has been described as "the most important film festival in the world – the largest, the most influential, the most inclusive."

Since 1972 and throughout its growth in both size and influence, the Festival has remained committed to its principal objectives: to lead the world in cultural and creative discovery through the moving image and to place Canadian achievements in an international context.

At the 39th edition of the festival, Balkan filmmakers Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Danis Tanovic and Panos H. Coutras -to name a few- will present their latest, awarded works. Most of the Balkan films and co-production at the festival are screening at the Contemporary World Cinema Section:

Itsi Bitsi by Ole Christian Madsen, Denmark/Croatia/Sweden, 2014

The Lesson by Kristina Grozeva & Petar Valchanov, Bulgaria/Greece, 2014

Modris by Juris Kursietis, Latvia/Germany/Greece, 2014

The Reaper by Zvonimir Juric, Croatia/Slovenia, 2014

Red Rose by Sepideh Farsi, France/Greece/Iran, 2014

Tigers by Danis Tanovic, India/France/United Kingdom, 2014

Xenia by Panos H. Koutras, Greece/France/Belgium, 2014

Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s latest Palme d’Or 2014 Winter Sleep shows at the Masters Section.

After its films, the second most interesting thing about Toronto IFF is its Industry Section, offering year-round professional development opportunities, fluid access to TIFF΄s film festivals and world class sales support to film industry professionals. Each year, the Industry Section has a rich programme of activities, workshops and industry meetings.
