Numerous personalities from the international film scene, various sections, new filmmakers, industry activities and the special Eastern Promises - Autobiography of Eastern Europe retrospective - the 62nd San Sebastian International Film Festival opens tomorrow, September 19, lasting till the 27th of the same month.
The festival will honour Benicio del Toro and Denzel Washington with the Donostia Award, given to a great film personality in recognition for their work and career. John Malkovich, Pedro Almodovar, Willem Dafoe, Viggo Mortensen, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Antonio Banderas will be attending – among others.
Interesting industry activities are also scheduled for the Industry section of the festival. Meetings and professional rendezvous, presentations, press conferences, round tables and events will be organised to facilitate professional contacts, the buying and selling of films, and the exchanging of experiences.
This year, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall the festival organises a big retrospective on Eastern European Cinema. A cycle of 50 films produced since 2000 in the countries that lived under Soviet influence post-World War II, aiming at discovering the creative wealth of these film industries and the new talents to have emerged in the last decade.

The festival will also award Richard Linklater’s latest Boyhood with the FIPRESCI Grand Prix 2014 – Best Film of the Year.
