17th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival - Doc Market

Approximately 450 films will be available in this year’s Doc Market (March 15 to 21), including the majority of the films that are screened as part of the 17th Thessaloniki Doc Fest official program. Introduced in 1999, Doc Market 2015 will host approximately 60 buyers from Europe, the USA and Canada. Let΄s have a look at the different sections comprising it.

Docs In Progress 2015, March 20

The programme΄s fourth edition has selected 7 projects from the Balkans and the Mediterranean region looking for co-production deals, funds for project completion, as well as deals for presales and distribution. The project films participate in closed sessions for Thessaloniki’s invited industry professionals, sales agents, distributors, producers and festival representatives. For the first time -as far as Docs in Progress is concerned- 2|35 Post-Production House offers an award (€15,000) in post-production services.

EDN Docs In Thessaloniki – Pitching Forum 2015, March 18 - 22 

The Docs in Thessaloniki, running since 2001 in collaboration with the European Documentary Network and with the support of the EU MEDIA Program, gives documentary professionals the opportunity to have their projects pitched to a panel of international financiers, commissioning editors and representatives of the international audiovisual media. The first 3 days focus on project development and polishing, under the guidance of the following industry professionals from the UK, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Greece, and Denmark. The last 2 days are reserved for pitching.

Moreover, on March 19, EDN Docs in Thessaloniki 2015 is holding a two-hour Masterclass -The North American Documentary Broadcast Market-, with executive producer and senior industry consultant Peter Hamilton presenting the key players in North America, like HBO, POV, PBS, TVO, Knowledge Canada, Smithsonian Channel, and how they operate.  

Finally, the Doc Market organizes half-hour talks (Market Talks, March 18 - 20) by professionals from different areas/professions in the documentary world. The talks will take place in an informal environment and the speakers will share valuable advice and observations drawn from their extensive experience in the industry.
