The 56th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF) ended this Saturday, with Grimur Hakornarson΄s Rams getting the festival΄s top prize, the Golden Alexander Award. Rams became known at the last Cannes, when was named Best Film at the Un Certain Regard program.

As Yorgos Arvanitis, the president of the TIFF Board of Directors noted, "during this year’s edition we celebrated all these features that define what it means to be human. The 200 films presented difficult issues that persist over time, such as the vulnerable human relationships and the rapid social changes". He also thanked this year΄s guests of honour: director Arnaud Desplechin, to whom he expressed his feelings of sympathy, Mircea Daneliuc, whose films were presented in the Balkan Survey section, for the first time in a great tribute outside Romania, as well as cinematographer Nikos Kavoukidis, whose career spans for six decades.
