Numerous Balkan titles at the 27th Trieste Film Festival

Italy΄s most important gathering of Central-Eastern European cinema, the Trieste Film Festival will run from January 22 to 30. For 27 years, the festival is the vantage point of a, often, little-known cinema and filmmakers, to the Italian and the Western public.

The High Sun by Dalibor Matanic

TFF 2016 has programed numerous screenings of films and co-productions from the Balkans in its three competition and the many non-competition sections, one of them Dalibor Matanic΄s The High Sun, which will open the festival, also included at the Feature Film Competition program. Father by Visar Morina also competes at the same section, Jasmila Zbanic (One Day In Sarajevo) at the non-competitive Documentary section, Alexis Alexiou (Wednesday 04:45) & Athina Rachel Tsangari (Chevalier) at the non-competitive Genres Surprises and a number of other Balkan filmmakers with their films spread through TFF 2016 different programs.

The New Romanian Cinema section includes four of the most recent and most travelled films of 2015 from the neighboring country by filmmakers such as Corneliu Porumboiu, Radu Muntean, Radu Jude, and Florin Serban, while the LUX Prize section has selected works by Deniz Gamze Erguven, Alexander Nanau and the Bulgarian duo Kristina Grozeva & Petar Valchanov.

At Trieste΄s Industry Section, the When East Meets West (WEMW) co-production forum (read here) includes Last Stop Trieste (LST) which will present 4 documentaries in advanced editing stage (fine cut) with three additional guest docu-projects. Furthermore, the Eastweek workshop for projects on cinema subjects and the art of storytelling, open for all undergraduate students of Eastern European film academies, this year has selected two projects from the region.
