On Monday,
15th February 2016, actor Daniel Brühl welcomed to the
Berlinale Palast stage ten up and coming actors of their generation - the
European Shooting Stars 2016. Brühl himself received the Shooting Stars Award back in 2003 and is star of this year’s Competition entry
Alone in Berlin.
The
Shooting Stars 2016 are Martha Canga Antonio (Belgium),
Tihana Lazović (Croatia), Lou de Laâge (France), Jella Haase (Germany),
Daphné Patakia (Greece), Atli Óskar Fjalarsson (Iceland), Sara Serraiocco (Italy), Reinout Scholten van Aschat (The Netherlands), María Valverde (Spain) and Kacey Mottet Klein (Switzerland).

After a weekend of meeting and greeting industry professionals, interviews and introductions with the international entertainment media, the awards ceremony was a thrilling end to a busy few days for these young actors.
The host of the evening, Daniel Brühl stated that “It’s a great honour to host the Shooting Stars awards ceremony tonight, and to celebrate the achievements of incredible talent across Europe. Tonight’s event reminds me of my time as a Shooting Stars and I’m proud to be here to support the next generation."
European Shooting Stars is financially supported by the
Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Union and participating
EFP member organisations. Leading jewellery company TESIRO generously donates the annual Shooting Stars Award, presented at tonight’s ceremony to all ten Shooting Stars.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Festival Director Dieter Kosslick and Monika Grütters, German Federal Government Commissioner of Culture and the Media and a number of Europe’s cultural ministers.
