!f Istanbul Independent Film Festival 2016

The 15th Istanbul Independent Film Festival,!f, will be held from 18th to 28th of February in Istanbul and from 3rd to 6th March 2016 in Ankara and Izmir. As every year, since 2002, !f is dedicated to showcase and promote the best in contemporary film, in various thematic sections that reflect issues that are gripping the world’s - and filmmakers΄- imagination.

!f Istanbul celebrates the ninth year of the !f Inspired International Film Competition, started in 2008, dedicated to discovering and honouring emerging new talents in cinema since its inaugural year. Open to first/second time directors from around the world, !f Inspired aims to highlight films which push the boundaries of cinema and explore new stylistic tendencies. 

The competition offers a $10 thousand cash prize and will be judged by a five-person jury of inspiring members of the international and Turkish film community, who will pick the year’s ‘Most Inspired Director’

In this section, among the numerous films, from all over the world, the audience will have the chance to watch Black Horse Memories by Shahram Alidi (Iran – Turkey, 2015) and Hidden by Ali Kemal Çınar (Turkey, 2015), while Baglar by Berke Baş and Melis Birder (Turkey, 2015) will compete in the Love and Chance Competition.

Galas, a section that presents some of the most exciting and most talked about films of the year, will screen the co-production Sparrows by Rúnar Rúnarsson (Iceland – Denmark – Croatia, 2015) and #resistayol by Rüzgâr Buşki (Turkey – Germany, 2016) will appear in the Rainbow category of the festival.

The Academy Award nomination Mustang by Deniz Gamze Ergüven (France – Turkey – Germany, 2015) will screen in the Home section, along with the films Kedi by Ceyda Torun (Turkey – USA, 2015) and The Dog by Esen Işık (Turkey, 2015).

Dark and Edgy, a section that highlights dark and disturbing films will present, among others, the Turkish features Naciye (2015) by Lütfü Emre Çiçek and Nekro (2015) by Pınar Sinan, while finally the Shorts from Turkey Category includes the shorts Cannot be trapped! (2015) by Serkan Ertekin, Dreams and Walls (2015) by Yakup Tekintangaç and Elephants in the Room (2015)by Eytan İpeker.
