The 69th Cannes Film Festival

The 69th Cannes Film Festival will take place this year from 11 to 22 May and all eyes are on the selected candidates for Palme d’OR and the other awards of the festival, one of the most important events of the cinema industry.

The Official selection of this year’s Cannes Film Festival edition includes once more numerous films from acclaimed filmmakers such as Pedro Almodovar, Sean Penn, Jim Jarmush and many others. Among the films competing for Palme d’OR Romania represents the Balkan region with the films Graduation and Sieranevada by the renowned directors Cristian Mungiu and Cristi Puiu respectively.

Another Romanian film, Dogs by Bogdan Mirica finds itself in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Film Festival

The Last Resort, a Greek/Italian/French  documentary by Thanos Anastopoulos and Davide del Degan was selected to screen in the Special Screenings category, taking the audience to the popular beach of “Pedocin” in Trieste, where a wall separates men from women.

Two more Romanian films will participate in Cannes Film Festival, namely 4:15 The End of the World by Catalin Rotaru and Gabi Virginia Sagra wich will claim the prize of the Short Film Competition, and All Rivers Run to the Sea by Alexandru Badea which will screen in the Cinefondation Selection. In the same selection we find the film Fine by Marta Hernaiz Pidal, a Bosnian Herzegovinian production.

Finally, the 55th Critics Week edition, the sidebar event of Cannes Film Festival decided to include in its selection Limbo, a short film by the Greek director Konstantina Kotzamani.
