The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. The Festival also organises retrospectives and tributes to major figures as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema.

King of the Belgians by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth
The Balkan region is also represented in the Orizzonti section with four films and namely King of the Belgians by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, Big Big World by Reha Erdem, as well as the shorts Good Luck, Orlo! by Sara Kern (Slovenia/Croatia/Austria, 2016, 14min) and First Night by Andrei Tanase (Romania/Germany, 2016, 17min). Orizzonti is an international competition programme dedicated to films that represent the latest aesthetic and expressive trends in international cinema.
Quit Starring at my Plate by Hana Jusic
Last but not least, Quit Starring at my Plate by Hana Jusic will screen as part of Venice Days, the independent section of the festival, promoted by the Italian Association of Filmmakers ANAC and 100 Autori.
