19 Balkan Films at the 41st Toronto International Film Festival

The 41st edition of Toronto International Film Festival will run this year from the 8th to the 18th of September, bringing together hundreds of films from all around the globe in its various sections. The Balkan Peninsula will once again be present at this major festival with 19 films - productions and co-productions - in total.

Death in Sarajevo by Danis Tanovic, The Fixer by Adrian Sitaru, Clair Obsur by Yesim Ustaoglu and Ember by Zeki Demircubuz will screen in the Contemporary World Cinema among 35 films in total.

35 outstanding films will also screen in the Discovery program, including Godless by Ralitza Petrova, Jesus by Fernando Guzzoni and Park by Sofia Exarchou.

Romanian and Serbian cinema represent the Balkans in the Masters section with the films Graduation by Cristian Mungiu, Sieranevada by Cristi Puiu and Land of Gods by Goran Paskaljevic

Joyce A. Nashawati’s Blind Sun will screen in the Vanguard, while The Day my Father Became a Bush by Nicole van Kilsdonk is included in the TIFF KIDS category.

Wavelengths will screen the film Strange Vision of Seeing Things by Ryan Ferko (Canada/Serbia, 2016, 14min).

Finally, Sandy Beach by Thanos Papastergiou (Greece, 2016, 12min), All Rivers Run to the Sea by Alexandru Badea (Romania, 2016, 20min), Fluffy by Lee Filipovski (Serbia/Canada, 2016, 24min), Transition by Milica Tomovic (Serbia, 2016, 21min), Half a Man by Kristina Kumric (Croatia/France, 2016, 20min) and A New Home by Ziga Virc (Slovenia, 2016, 14min) will be part of the section dedicated to short films, Short Cuts.
