The Awards of the 57th edition of Thessaloniki International Film Festival

The 57th edition of Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF) came to an end on Sunday 13 November 2016, with Attila΄s Till Kills on Wheels, awarded with the Golden Alexander “Theo Angelopoulos” Award, as the best full-length feature film presented on the Festival. The film, which explores the themes of rejection and estrangement, also took home the Best Actor Award, shared between the three protagonists, Zoltan Fenyvesi, Szabolcs Thuroczy and Adam Fekete.

The film Heartstone by Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson came in second and won the Silver Alexander and the film The Sower by Yosuke Takeuchi won the Bronze Alexander, as well as the Best Actress Award for Suzuno Takenaka΄s performance, equally shared with Dimitra Vlagkopoulou for her performance in Sofia΄s Exarhou film, Park.


Haris Fragoulis and Vasilis Koukalani won a Special Mention as lead actors for the films Afterlov by Stergios Paschos and Amerika Square by Yannis Sakaridis respectively.


The film Amerika Square by Yannis Sakaridis also won the Special Youth Jury Award and the  Fipresci Award for a Greek film, while William΄s Oldroyd Lady Macbeth received the Fipresci Award for an International Competition film.


The documentary 90 Years of Paok- Nostalgia for the Future by Nikos Triantafyllidis, awarded the Greek Film Critics Association (PEKK) Award.


The turkish film Rauf by Baris Kaya and Soner Caner was the big winner in the Balkan Survey section.


The International Jury was comprised of Amir Naderi, director (Iran), Peter Scarlet, film curator, producer (USA), Frederique Moreau, screenwriter (France), Sofian El Fani, director of photography (Tunisia) and Eva Stefani, director (Greece).


The Golden Alexander goes to the film Kills on Wheels by Attila Till
