Presentation of the SEEfest 2018 awards took place on May 3 at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. 
Filmmakers from Azerbaijan, Serbia, Romania, Turkey lead the jury awards. 

SEEfest 2018 Jury Awards

Best Feature Film, Grand Jury Prize - Bridging the Borders Award, sponsored by Cinema Without Borders, Los Angeles-based magazine for international cinema, went to Azerbaijan΄s Pomegranate Orchard by Ilgar Najaf, contemporary family saga inspired by Anton Chekhov΄s The Cherry Orchard. It premiered at Karlovy Vary last year. Najaf previous films include critically acclaimed Red Garden and Buta. 

Special Jury Mention in this category was given to Romanian film with an American name, Hawaii, set in 1988, the great escape story by the prolific Spaniard and Romania’s transplant, Jesús del Cerro. 

Best First Feature was awarded to The Marriage, an intimate but powerful drama from Kosovo’s talented Blerta Zeqiri, about a seemingly happy relationship, with secrets bubbling just under the surface.   

Best Documentary Film award went to Nejla Demirci’s Confrontation from Turkey, an unflinching account of several women’s struggle with a cancer diagnosis. 

Special Jury Mention for Documentary Film, and Best Cinematography in Documentary Film was awarded to Serbian director MilaTurajlić whose powerful story about the country in turmoil The Other Side of Everything previously won the prestigious IDFA Best Feature-Length Documentary Award in November 2017. Turajlić is widely known for her previous documentary, Cinema Komunisto

Special Jury Mention for Cinematography in Documentary Film was given to Andrés Arce Maldonado for the poetic Italian film about The Nearest Elsewhere. A Journey to Slovenia, directed by Elisabetta Sgarbi.   

Best Cinematography in Feature Film was awarded to Matthias Pilz for his work on Slovenian drama about dark secrets from the past The Miner, directed by Hanna Slak. 

Special Jury Mention in this category went to Tudor Vladimir Panduru, cinematographer of Romanian film Hawaii, directed by Jesús del Cerro. 

Best Short Fiction: Written/Unwritten (Romania), director Adrian Silisteanu. 

Best Short DocumentaryBetween Lands (Switzerland/Greece), Director: Lore Rinsoz. 

Best Animation Short: The Best Customer (Romania), Director: Serghei Chiviriga. 

SEE Fest 2018 Audience Awards 
Feature FilmUnwanted, (Kosovo/The Netherlands) by Edon Rizvanolli. 
Documentary Film: Re:Pete, (USA/Romania) by Andrei Russu.   

SEEfest 2018 presented 55 films over 8 days in multiple locations, with 44 films in competition: 11 features, 9 documentaries, and 24 short films; and additional 11 films as special screenings /out of competition including 2 features, 2 documentaries, and 7 short films. Most films were North American premieres, with two world premieres and one international premiere. Festival’s diverse audience comprised filmmakers and international art-house aficionados, industry professionals and cultural dignitaries from Los Angeles and South East Europe.
