Dating back to 1948, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is one of the oldest film festivals in the world and has become one of Eastern and Central Europe’s most prominent events for cinema. The festival, which takes place in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic from June 29th to July 7th has now announced the program of films for its Official Selection, East of the West, and Documentary competitions. Three new sections will also included this year. Future Frames: Ten New Filmakers To Follow, Made in Texas: Tribute to Austin Film Society and Reflections of Time: Baltic Poetic Documentary.
This year’s 53rd edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will honour the memory of the recently deceased Milos Forman at its opening ceremony.
The opening film of this year’s festival will be Forman’s legendary comedy Loves of a Blonde.
Once more the festival offers a wide range of acclaimed and upcoming films from all over the world, including several works from the Balkan region. The Balkan films that will screen at the competition and the non-competition sections are the following:
