Two
Do It Yourself Greek productions,
Tungsten and
The Guide, will be shown in a double bill (one ticket admits to both films) on theaters, the week starting the 24th of November 2011.
Independent film directors, Zacharias Mavroidis and George Georgopoulos, decided to co-distribute their films on theaters without waiting for a proper single distribution. They have found movie theaters which are able to project their
Digital Cinema Package (DCP) and now they invite the audience to a new way of apprehending the theater screenings.

What do they have in common? Two no budget productions (not at all!), two filmless movies, one common schema: Athens.
Georgopoulos’s Tungsten follows six characters, whose lives intersect, on a day in which a blackout leaves the city without electricity. Mavroidis’s O Xenagos (The Guide) is about a young man trying to balance the demands of his personal life and his clients as he guides them around the city’s architecture.
"Every director’s first movie is a long journey, and when this journey begins as an indie production the adventure is guaranteed", said the directors in a joint statement. "
Tungsten and
The Guide are two films that were completed against all odds, without any production company, without money, but thanks to the faith and generosity of the creative people behind them."
Georgopoulos and Mavroidis note that while their respective films highlight different facets of the Greek capital, "their co-distribution is a dialogue for Athens" and the joint screening is "a natural continuation of the collectiveness and mutualism necessary for distribution."
Co-distribution is gambit for these directors but a move that all independent directors will be watching as a possible model for getting their films into theaters.
