Pula Film Festival 2012 closed in Pula on Saturday, July 28, with the Awards Ceremony. The film A Letter to my Father,a feature debut by Damir Cucic, renowned Croatian editor and documentary and experimental filmmaker, won the Grand Golden Arena for Best Film at the 59th edition of Pula Film Festival. The award was attributed to the producer Vera Robic Skarica from Croatian Film Association. The official selection jury consisting of Vanja Cernjul, Tomislav Kurelec, Dalibor Matanic, Ante Tomic and Nina Violic explained their decision as follows:
A Letter to My Father is a hauntingly convincing tale about the relationship between a father and a son in a world where men shun away from affection. In a fascinating artistic adventure, deep beneath decades of anger, mutual accusations, guilt and remorse, the authors find hidden love, forgiveness and peace for both protagonists.
Voting for the National Programme screened at the Arena, the audience granted the Golden Gate of Pula Audience Award to the film Halima’s Path by Arsen Anton Ostojic, produced by Arkadena Zagreb, with an average score of 4.86.

World record at the first 3D screening
Director and producer Jozo Patljak was awarded with a special Golden Arena for pioneer introduction of 3D technology in Croatian cinematography for his film Accidental Passer-By, the first Croatian 3D film. For the first time in this part of the world an impressive 3D film screening was presented at an open-air theatre, at the Pula amphiteatre Arena, as part of the Pula Film Festival. The 3D screening at the Pula Arena was carried out from a distance of 73.6 meters, a distance which surpasses all the film screenings known so far, along with the configuration settings of the current technology. In addition, a viewing angle of 60 degrees was achieved, which covered the entire auditorium of the Arena in its full capacity. According to official information, yesterday’s 3D screening was followed by 5920 spectators, which is the largest number of spectators at a 3D screening ever recorded in the world. This was an exceptional night for Croatian cinematography.
