Durres, once again, this year, welcomed many foreign artists and film makers, who got to know this magnificent second city of Albania through film. The Durres International Film Festival presented in its 5th edition the best European movies produced in the last two years. At the Island of Festival near the beach, and at the Ancient Roman Amphitheatre, the public watched the best world cinematographic productions just under the stars. This edition promoted important and innovative works of modern world cinema introducing them to the local audiences. This year, the festival established two more sections: on International Documentary Programme and the Short Film.
The official competition consisted of 8 features selected among the most significant recent productions and the 6 following features at Balkan World Section, recent productions from the region: Veda (Turkey), White Lions (Serbia, Croatia), Tungsten (Greece), The Code of Life (Kosovo), The Fantom Father (Romania) and Good Night Missy, a Croatian co-production with Slovenia, by Metoc Pevec, which won the Silver Gladiator Award as the Best Balkan Film. The Code of Life by Ekrem Kryeziu won the audience award, while Lazar Ristovski was awarded with the Fipresci Award for his White Lions. As part of the Albanian Short Section, Acropolis, by Blerdi Malushi won the Best Short Student Film Award.
