When Day Breaks, Goran Paskaljevic΄s most recent film, won the Gran Prix and the audience award at the international film festival of Merida.
This festival takes place every year in Merida, Extremadura, Spain, with an official programme featuring films which have yet to be commercially released in Spain. This year, a total of 12 films from the United States, France, Poland, Argentina and Spain competed for the award.
When Day Breaks is the story of a retired music professor (Mustafa Nadarevic) who under unusual circumstances discovers his true origins.He also discovers an unfinished musical score, called When day breaks, composed by a concentration camp prisoner.
Searching about himself and his origins, he discovers the little-known truth about Judenlager Semlin camp, one of the worst Nazi execution sites in the heart of contemporary Belgrade.
“With this film, I’ve attempted to do something very complicated”, says Goran Paskaljevic. “To make a simple film.”
The film will be shown at festivals in Gothenburg, Hong Kong and Istanbul early 2013, and will open in several cities in Spain in late January.
