The European Parliament announced on June 30, in the frames of Karlovy Vary Film International Film Festival, the ten films of the LUX Prize 2013 Official Selection. Among the films we meet Circles by the Serbian director Srdan Golubovic.

The 3 finalists of the Official Selection will be announced on July 23 in Rome. These 3 films will be subtitled into 24 official languages of the European Union and will be screened all over EU within the LUX FILM DAYS.

The European Parliament is going to award the winner with the LUX Prize 2013, in December 2013 in Strasbourg.

The ten films of the LUX Prize Official Selection:

Eat Sleep Die by Gabriela Pichler (Sweden)

In Bloom by Nana Ekvtimishvili (France, Georgia, Germany)

Circles by Srdan Golubovic (Croatia, France, Germany, Serbia, Slovenia)

La Grande Bellezza by Paolo Sorrentino (France, Italy)

The Plague by Neus Ballus (Spain)

Miele by Valeria Golino (France, Italy)

Oh Boy! by Jan Ole Gerster (Germany)

Pevnost by Lukás Kokes (Czech Republic)

The Broken Circle Breakdown by Felix Van Groeningen (Belgium)

The Selfish Giant by Clio Barnard (United Kingdom)

Since 2007 European Parliament Lux Prize aims to draw attention to notable European films. It΄s the Parliament΄s strong belief that the cinema as a mass cultural medium is able to paly a substantial part in Europe and its future.

The Official Selection includes films that promote different views regarding some of the most emerging social and political issues concerning Europe and therefore it shows the cultural diversity, as well as the process of European integration.

Because of Europe΄s film industry΄s difficulties, the European Parliament focuses on distribution of the winning films. The LUX Prize offers its winners recognition as it screens and publicizes their films within the EU and beyond.
