Seven Balkan films at the 70th Venice International Film Festival

On Thursday, July 25 2013 Alberto Barbera, the director of Venice International Film Festival, unveiled the line-up of its 70th edition. The Festival will run from 28 August till 07 September 2013. As every year the official selection includes the sections Venezia 70 (official competition), Out of Competition, Orizzonti and Venice Classsics. The sections Critic΄s Week and Venice Days are independently organized. Bernardo Bertolucci will be heading this year΄s competition jury. 

USA and UK films may dominate the 70th edition of the festival, however Balkan films are present at almost every section of the program.

In the official competition of feature world premieres we meet the greek film Miss Violence by Alexandros Avranas, 98min (Greece, 2013). 

Deniz Akcay΄s Nobody΄s home /Koksuz, 81min (Turkey, 2013) and Milko Lazarov΄s Alienation /ОТЧУЖДЕНИЕ, 77min (Bulgaria, 2013)  will screen at Venice days. 

The audience will have the chance to watch the classic film Do you Remember Dolly Bell? /Sjećaš li se Doli Bel? by the great Emir Kusturica, 107min (Bosnia-Herzegovina, 1981) in the section Venice Classics. 

Two Slovenian films were selected for the Critic΄s Week. Class Enemy /Razredni Sovražnik by Rok Bicek, 112min (Slovenia, 2013) and Zoran, My Nephew is Idiot /Zoran, Il mio nipote scemo by Matteo Oleotto, 103min (Italy-Slovenia, 2013).

Finally, Lendita Zeqiraj΄s film Ballkoni, 20min (Kossovo*, 2013) will screen at Orizzonti, a section dedicated to new trends in world cinema.
