Holy Saturday. A van transporting the fireworks of a group of Athenians stalls as a result of engine failure in a mountain settlement. In his attempt to buy a firework rocket for his seven year-old son, Luan, an Albanian who works as a shepherd in the region, comes into contact with the inhabitants, rekindling an old hostility. The local stockbreeder Thymios cannot stand to see someone with a different religion praying in the pastures where he was raised. He offends him, humiliates him in front of his son and the pyrotechnicians and throws him out of the settlement.
Luan leaves. But deep inside he seethes with rage. He returns and asks if he can buy all the fireworks. But Thymios disagrees. He cannot stomach the thought that a Muslim will set off fireworks at the Resurrection service according to tradition along with the Christians.
The night takes a dramatic turn and Easter Sunday ends in a tragedy. |
