I’d like to add a few words about the making of the film. All dialogues were pre-recorded so that by the time the actual shooting began, we already laid down an audio track—sort of like a radio drama—thus the actors had to lip sync the dialogue as if in playback. The decision to pre-record the dialogue wasn’t only to reduce shooting time—filming took just 20 days—but also allowed us to cast amateur actors. This experiment reaffirmed my belief that the soul of acting is speech. It may sound odd, and certainly would be a grave mistake for anyone to underestimate the importance of movement and body language or facial expression, but voice ranks first—it’s undoubtedly what touches you. Image is second. BIG XIT represents this “Dogma”, that is, that first we hear and then we see. Hasn’t it been this way since the womb? Karolos Zonaras
