Plot
Costa, a young public prosecutor, is sent to investigate the suspicious death of a miner in the Jiu Valley, in modern-day Romania. Accident or murder? Costa's probing inquiry unsettles the local authorities who fear a miners' uprising. When a second mutilated corpse is found, Costa knows it is murder...

The film was nominated for Palme d`Or at 1996 Cannes Film Festival.

Based on the novel by Rasvan Popescu.

Director`s Statement

''What happens when, after the mass euphoria caused by the apparently permanent end of disaster, another hell soon forms spontaneously from the ruins of the previous hell? And when you cannot tackle this new hell with the arms of the past, black humour? What happens when "Evil" - recycled and renewed - with its amazing imaginative powers and its capacity for adaptation, immediately brings about an even harsher society than the one that pretended to die in order to survive? When the whole Communist nomenclature transforms itself into a class of nouveaux riches, when the Mafia replaces the old Party, when the poor of all time become no more than brainless, automated apes? When there's no longer any resistance? When nothing but exile remains?'' When everything is too late. "Too Late" is the final film in my trilogy on Communism and its destruction of Romania."
