Plot
The ships of the Greeks are getting ready to embark on the Trojan campaign in order to retrieve the fair Helen, are stranded in Aulis. The winds do not blow. The soothsayer says that only if King Agamemnon sacrifices his daughter Iphigenia will the Greek fleet be able to sail. Under the pretext of marrying her off to Achilles, King of the Myrmidons, Agamemnon orders her to come to Aulis. Iphigenia arrives with her mother Clytemnestra. When the two women find out the truth they are horror-stricken but in the end Iphigenia decides to allow herself to be led to the sacrificial altar.
