War in Croatia. One of many prisoners exchanges. In one of the trucks we see a man with no identity and no memories. In a strange chain of events he’ll be given a name – Jakov Ribar. He’ll wander away from the line of prisoners through the mine fields. The main character reveals that in this “small” war at the end of the millenium is unbearably horrible for him. Only the images that we see throughout the film partly decribe the complexity of the situation. A lot of soldiers and accidental civilians are caught in this evil and utter madness. Numerous destinies and stories are in most part taken from a sort of a “diary of bizarreness”, which the author wrote during the war in the 1990s. Thus, it is a story based on true events. The film does not strictly fit into the war film genre and it does not have a classical narrative form. Skies, satellites was filmed on the mouth of the Neretva river, in the southern part of Croatia.
