An independent, low budget film that is reminiscent of the cinema of Wim Wenders and Fassbinder. Its protagonist is a Greek film director who is vegetating in Berlin trying to make the film which he has entitled "Addio Berlin". At some point a fiendish Greek producer appears who offers to finance his film. But when our hero finally arrives in Greece to start shooting, he finds he is in for a number of surprises, including two gangsters who tail him believing he is someone else. With simple scenes, set up with particular emphasis on their plastic qualities, shot in black and white and creating the atmosphere of the film noir, Athanitis made a film with a substantial dose of freshness and originality, demonstrating that a director with inspiration can make interesting films with very little money. |
