Tevfik, a retired bank employee, leads a moderate life with his wife, Neriman and two sons, Selim and Zafer  in Istanbul. Selim's disabilities have dominated the household for many years from his severe mental retardation, arise he has to live a life dependent on his caretaker -something everyone except him knows. Here lies Neriman's biggest fear in life: she cannot help but worry about what would become of Selim should anything happen to her. Salim's condition is the reason his parents had a second child, Zafer. Zafer's scorn for his family is also rooted in Selim's disabilities. He is for ever overshadowed by his older brother's condition, and unable to show himself for what he is.
