Andreas Sam is a young writer searching for his roots and the memory of his father who disappeared in the maelstrom of World War II. As he roams the labyrinth of the past, instead of finding answers he is faced with more questions. And thus, a journey into the past becomes a list of feelings and doubts. Helplessness, homelessness, constant homesickness and a desire to belong to one person and one place: this is the portrait of a citizen of Central Eastern Europe, living among various religions and cultures and often forced into minority situations. Kis's novel, retold with the help of visual means, makes the audience face the paranoia of nationalism and the consequences of ideological blindness. |
