"The joy and sorrow of the body" is a contemporary drama, a film noir that deals with a timeless subject, that of friendship and treason. Evagoras has just been released from prison where he has completed a five year sentence. He was an excellent student and an only child who grew up without a father, a refugee from Yialousa. He had a grand future ahead of him but fate and a friendship that he chose not to betray led him to prison. Now he is a lonely 35 year old man trying to begin his life from anew. However, he is haunted by his past that he cannot leave behind and is desperately searching for his lost friend. The journey of his quest leads him to Bulgaria. There he meets and falls in love with Dita, a young and beautiful woman. Through their love they both seek salvation; Evagoras needs to feel loved, he needs to communicate, to trust again. Dita needs to find a better life and a way out from her reality. What Evagoras is not aware of is that throughout his journey he is being followed by the secret police and Interpol who believe that he will eventually lead them to Milen, his friend. Soon he will have to endure another betrayal, this time from the woman he loves. Will Evagoras ever find his dear friend? Was it worth spending 5 years in prison for their friendship?
