Plot
Based on true stories, BURN follows Call Me Joe, as he calls himself, an emigrant from the former Yugoslavia, who comes to New York to make it and to forget the horrors of war in his country. By chance he meets Chris, a charming, disillusioned cynic, womanizer and heavy drinker, who dreamt of making the great American movie, but got stuck making yeast infection and hemorrhoid relief commercials. Chris's parents came from Yugoslavia, and Chris is drawn to the mysterious foreigner.

Joe moves in with Chris-- that is, with Chris and his girlfriend Sam. As Joe enters their lives, Chris and Sam are on the verge of breaking up, and soon an awkward love triangle develops between the three of them. Joe is a photographer, but he can't make it in New York. In order to survive, he contacts a network of expatriates, which gets him involved with the underbelly of New York-- Yugoslav criminals, who deal drugs, launder money, as well as trade arms to the former Yugoslavia.

Against his will, Joe gets caught into another circle of violence. Torn between East European criminals and someone else's love story, he experiences New York's many realities - from the streets and the homeless, wheeling and dealing immigrants and con-men, to artists and powerful managers. To Chris, however, Joe is the catalyst for change-- Chris turns his life around. He saves Joe and opens the doors to a new life for him. But through his redemption, Chris enters an underworld he has never known-- an underworld of hate and senseless violence...
