Çekmeköy Underground tells the story of youth in tenement towns and these towns transform into luxurious satellite towns. The boys of the hood now have the music studio they had dreamt of having for years. They practise for a talent contest while shooting an “arabesk rap” music video in honour of their elder bro who is about to be released from jail. Cemal, a.k.a. “Küllü Harap” is released from prison to find them, but apart from his obsessive, imaginary love story, he is interested in almost nothing. Though the young men try to run away from the tragedy brought forth by romance, to hold on to life with music and dance, the glittering cruelty of Istanbul would burn their dreams at the stake. |
