Living in a mountain village at the Hozat region of Dersim, Granpa Zeynel (Zeynel Kahraman) is an almost centenarian Kurdish man, a master of almost everything. His mastery extends to more than one area of expertise and includes music, instrument making, word, stone and wood carving, husbandry, and even beekeeping. Composer of numerous popular songs, Granpa Zeynel’s woodcarved dowry chests are kept and preserved. He is also capable of playing the music instruments he manufactures, such as bağlama, violin, or the cura. many Dersim villages feature stone houses once built by this dextrous man. Focusing on Granpa Zeynel and his crowded extended family, this documentary is similar to a journey from the roots to the leaves of a plane tree.
