"In 2014, the world witnessed a rare incident. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, (ISIS) who claim to fight in the name of Islam, launched an aggressive and destructive war. Their assault moved rapidly and violently through Syria and Iraq, with seemingly no one standing in their way. Or so it seemed, until they reached Kobanê, a small city in Rojava (Western Kurdistan), officially within the borders of Syria. The surprising resistance put up by the residents of Kobanê grabbed the attention of international public and media. The question we try to answer in Before Dawn is ‘what is the real motivation behind the resistance in Kobane’? With this question in mind, we, the team of Before Dawn, set out and reached Ehmed Remo in a refugee camp in the Turkish Kurdistan near Kobanê. Remo, who fought in the mountains for years and was imprisoned, continues to follow the Kobane conflict from the Kobanê hill every day despite residual health problems due to the torture he endured while in prison. Before Dawn is a documentary that focuses on Ehmed Remo’s story and portrays the resistance of Kobanê from an inside perspective." – Ömer Leventoğlu & İhsan Kaçar |
