Bosnia, 1955. Atif, son of a miner, finds out, that he will be the face of the most valuable banknote across the country, the 1000 dinar bill. Nobody really knows why or how. He is invited to Belgrade, where he also meets the head of state, Josip Broz Tito. After returning to his town, he seems to be a famous man. He gets a good job, enjoys the newly acquired privileges and everything seems fine. But then he falls in love with a prostitute, a young woman who literally is always in trouble and who gets called "Thousand" - a synonym for her most expensive service. Atif resigns from his job and lives a slovenly life. But what really rankles him: he wants his girlfriend to be socially recognised as well. Suddenly, Tito announces his visit. |
