In Athens - Greece, today. Christos who is 22, wants to hit the big time, become famous, make money. But it is Michalis, Marina's husband and Fanny's father, who has the money. Marina is a woman who sacrifices herself for her husband and kids, but now in her forties, her heart flutters again the way it did when she was in her twenties. But Fanny, 18, a would-be swimming champ, is already in love with him. Then there is Roula, his hot-blooded girlfriend who loves him. It has been quite a while since a Greek filmmaker last dealt with the small insignificant" dramas that are played out every day in Athenian apartments without ever hitting the front pages of the dailies or the evening news. The protagonist in Tsemberopoulos' film is our next door neighbour, the lady in the apartment building across the street, the kid who rented the semi-basement studio. The setting is the archetypal "Athenian apartment", a futile test tube where needs, dreams and passions stir. |
