A Police Inspector Calls is a key film about the massacre which took place at Jilava Prison near Bucharest (here given the fictional name Virage) on November 29th 1940, in which dozens of political prisoners were slaughtered by members of the Iron Guard (further dissidents would be murdered over the following days). Inspector Tudor Moldovan (a man with a scrappy class warrior pedigree) is tasked with investigating the case – which he goes about doing rather differently than his higher-ups would prefer to see. |
