Kinetta. A defunct Greek resort town inhabited during the off-season by migrant workers.
A plainclothes cop with a passion for automobiles, tape recorders and Russian women investigates a series of recent murders in the area. He enlists the help of a photo store clerk, a loner type who is a part-time videographer, and a young hotel maid, who will be performing the role of the female victims. This oddball trio engages in a succession of murder re-enactments, directed by the cop with exhaustive attention to detail but questionable scientific purpose…
A quiet hand-held camera, in single-shot sequences, follows them discreetly. The photo store clerk develops a crush on the maid. He takes hot baths to get over her. The cop is desperately attracted to the latest BMW model. Frustrated and incomplete without his dream car, he takes go-cart rides and has manipulative afternoon trysts. The maid throws herself into her acting challenge with determination, trying her best to become the perfect victim. Her many scrapes and bruises – badges of her work ethic – make her a regular at the local hospital, with the photo clerk as her chagrined escort.
We know nothing more of these people. Not even their names. They will disappear in the first flood of summer vacationers. |
