Corfu, at the turn of the century. In the historical and social context of the place and the period, a story of love, betrayed for money. A young woman of humble origins is deserted by her beloved who belongs to the bourgeoisie: he does not dare go against his class by marrying a girl without a dowry.
Society would make an outcast of her -as would be the case for an unmarried mother in those days. But the industrial revolution has already begun and the young woman, through her new status as a factory worker, will find the means to survive and retain her dignity and her belief: that love should have no price. |
