Lechko, a sixteen-year-old gypsy boy, sings to a baby-boy about his mother Zlatina. Zlatina, as well as Lechko, who is a year younger, grew up in an institution for abandoned children. At a funfair, at the age of twelve, Zlatina shows her talent for shooting. The same day, a group of boys plan to rape Zlatina. She manages to avert the rape by offering herself to the boarding house supervisor. When she grows up and leaves the institution, she refuses to wear dresses or show emotion, believing that this de-feminisation will allow her to escape prostitution. Eventually, however, Zlatina ends up in a brothel in Greece where her worst nightmare becomes reality. Will Lechko, who has always loved her and followed her like a shadow all her life, be able to help her this time? |
