Deblokada was founded by director Jasmila Zbanic and producer Damir Ibrahimovic in 1997 as an association of artists. From its beginning, Deblokada respected authentic forms of authors’ film expression, while taking into account the market effects of the production of various artistic forms.
The name of this production company has its roots in the wartime in Bosnia and Herzegovina: After the end of the war there was a need to remove the blocks to conscience and creative potentials. That is why Deblokada’s wish from the very beginning has been to overcome the state of economic, psychological and political blockade, in which art found itself in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Until now Deblokada has produced ten documentaries and short feature films shown at many international festivals, the Berlinale’s winner full-length feature film Grbavica and has five films in their preproduction phases.
Deblokada attracts creative potentials and initiates creation of works of art by widening the network of people working together and intensifying contacts with international partners.
