Esra graduated from the Ankara Hacettepe State Conservatory Theatre Department. In 1997 she started working at the Izmit City Theatre, and also worked with several private theatre companies, most notable the Istanbul Aksanat New Generation Theatre and Talimhane Theatre. In 2004 she launched her film career with director Reha Erdem’s “What’s A Human Anyway?”. In 1999 she received the Special Mention Prize for Leading Actress by the Ankara Art Institution. In 2005 she received the Sadri Alisik Best Actress Award for her performance in the Turkish adaptation of Sam Shepard’s “Fool For Love’. She has also recently received critical acclaim with her performances in the Turkish adaptations of Neil La Bute’s “The Shape Of Things” and Lucy Kirkwood’s “It Felt Empty When the heart Went At First But It Is All Right Now” for which she received the prestigious Best Actress Award in the Afife Jale Turkish Theatre Awards. |
