Graduated film direction in Lodz, Poland (1967). From 1966 to 1968 he worked in Short Films Studios and in theatre in Poland. He has been teaching film direction at the National Academy of Film and Theatre Arts (NATFA) since 1975. For his film 1952 – Ivan and Alexandra he won the main national prize „Golden Rose", a „Golden Plaque" from the Chicago Film Festival and Special Prize of Jury in Montecatini '89.
