Born in 1971, Adrian Sitaru received a Computer Science degree before receiving his degree in Film Directing in 2004 from the Media University in Bucharest. He has directed several short and medium-length films, and one feature film, Angling, to be released in 2008. His short, Waves, presented at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008, was awarded the "Pardino d"Oro" at the Locarno Film Festival in 2007, the "Heart of Sarajevo" at the Sarajevo Film Festival, the "Bayard d"Or" in Namur, and special mentions at the Milano Film Festival - short film competition, Filmini Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria, and DaKINO (Romania). His first feature "Perscuit Sportiv (aka Hooked) won many prizes, including Best Actress and Silver Alexander in Thessaloniki International Film Festival 2008.
He worked as an assistant director for Vacuums (Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas) and with Radu Jude, for Amen (directed by Costa Gavras).
His new project, For Love With Best Intentions,
selected for Cinefondation in Cannes, the Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam
and Cinemart at the Rotterdam Festival.
"I"ve always been interested in human behaviour. Unlike other species, our behaviour is often absurd, governed by an innate sense of self-destruction. From the time when I began writing the script for Pescuit Sportiv, I always "saw" the story from the point of view of each of the characters, hence my choice for a subjective camera. This helped me to show, without necessarily "telling", that everything that was happening was the result of the point of view of someone on the outside: this presence could be called God, and angle, the director or any other presence looking on...". |
