Sotiris Dimitriou was born in 1925 in Athens, Greece. He studied in the National Technical University of Athens (Ε.Μ.Π) earning a degree in Civil Engineering. During his technical studies,he started his ongoing research in social anthropology.
His essays on anthropology, art and culture have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines. He is the author of several books including the five - volume “Dictionary of Terms” (a study that balances between being a dictionary and an encyclopedia), a multi – volume (and of great importance as a book of reference) undertake on “Evolution of Man”, et al. He has also written numerous articles and books on cinema, his most recent works are “Political Dimension in Art” (published in 2009) and “Anthropology, politics and semiotics in Cinema” (to be published).
He is a member, inter alia, of the Greek Association of Cinema Critics (Π.Ε.Κ.Κ.) since 1976, and the Hellenic Semiotics Society (Ε.Σ.Ε.) since 1980. |
