Georgi Dimitrov was born in 1964 in Silistra. He graduated from the High school for Stage Specialists in Plovdiv and got a degree in Animation Directing from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts several years later. In 1994 he attended Prof. Véronique Steeno’s postgraduate course in Animation Directing in Belgium. In 1999 the film The Incredible Adventures of Sindbad the Sailor he directed was awarded Golden Rhyton for best animation and the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers’ award.
For the last ten years Georgi Dimitrov has worked as Art Director in tens of commercial, TV and film productions including the films I, Hamlet, Get The Rabbit Back (selected in the Critic’s Week, Cannes 2005), Rabbit Troubles and many others. In 2000 he founded Multfilm Production Company whereby he produced the TV short She, The Sinner after Yordan Yovkov’s novel of the same name. A year later together with Ilian Djevelekov and Matey Konstantinov founded Miramar Film production company which is now ranking among Bulgarian top producers of TV commercials.
Zift by director Javor Gardev was Georgi Dimitrov’s first film as producer of full-length features. The film received Silver St. George award for Best director at the Moscow IFF in 2008. It was acclaimed at festivals such as Toronto, Melbourne, Mar del Plata, Istanbul, etc. and was sold in Europe (Germany, Scandinavia, Greece, Turkey, France, Poland) and in the US to IFC Films. In Bulgaria it was the most successful domestic film for the past 20 years. |
